Late Summer 1944 finds the Wehrmacht reeling under massive Soviet blows sustained during Operation Bagration. In the Baltics, Red Army advances have penetrated to reach Riga Gulf severing the link between Army Group North and what remains of Army Group Centre.

Reestablishing communication links with Latvia's capital Riga is of utmost importance as numerous formations, led by the elite "Grossdeutschland", are assembled for an armored counterattack.
